Santiago Pesquera Blanco was born on April 21, 1973, in La Rioja, Spain. He is a talented boccia player. Santiago has cerebral palsy since he was born. This means he uses a wheelchair and plays boccia as a BC3 athlete. In boccia, BC3 athletes use a ramp or a helper to throw the ball. Besides sports, Santiago also works with computers. He started playing sports when he was 17 years old. He also enjoys wheelchair track and field.

Santiago's Paralympic Journey

Santiago has competed in many Paralympic Games. These are big sports events for athletes with disabilities. He has won several medals for Spain.

Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000

Santiago first competed in boccia at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta. He then went to the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. There, he won a silver medal in the BC3 two-person team event.

Athens 2004 Success

At the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece, Santiago had a great performance. He won two silver medals! One was in the BC3 two-person team event, and the other was in the BC3 individual event.

Beijing 2008 Gold Medal

Santiago continued his success at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. This time, he achieved his dream and won a gold medal in the BC3 individual event. This was a huge achievement for him and for Spain. In April 2008, he was one of the top athletes from Navarre chosen to go to the Beijing Paralympics.
