Early Life and Education
Santo Monti was born in a city called Como in Italy. When he was young, he decided to study to become a Catholic priest. He went to a special school for priests called the Villoresi di Monza seminary.
In 1879, Monti became a priest. The Bishop of Como, a leader in the church, encouraged him to study more about theology (the study of religious faith) in Rome. Monti earned his degree in theology in 1880.
A Life of Service
Monti's first job as a priest was in Urio, a small town in the Province of Como. After that, he served at the church of San Giorgio in Como until 1881. Later, he became the chaplain (a priest who serves a specific group or institution) for the church's cemetery.
A Passion for History
Santo Monti was very involved in the cultural life of Como. He loved history and worked hard to learn about and protect it.
Leading the Como Historical Society
In 1888, Monti became the vice-president of the Como Historical Society. This group focused on studying and sharing the history of Como. In 1906, he became the president of the society. He led the society until he passed away in 1923.
Protecting Local Heritage
Monti also worked as the curator of the Civic Museum of Como. A curator is someone who manages and takes care of a museum's collections. He was also a member of the Provincial Commission for the Conservation of Monuments. This group helped protect important historical buildings and statues.
