Sara Hestrin-Lerner (Hebrew: שרה הסטרין-לרנר) was a scientist who studied how the human body works, a field called physiology. She was born in Canada on May 18, 1918, and later became an Israeli citizen. She passed away on November 18, 2017, at the age of 99.

About Sara Hestrin-Lerner

Sara Hestrin-Lerner was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in May 1918. When she was 14 years old, she moved with her parents to a place called the British Mandate of Palestine in 1932. This area is now known as Israel.

She went to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. There, she studied zoology, which is the study of animals. She also earned her doctorate degree in pathological physiology. This field looks at how diseases affect the way our bodies work.

Awards and Recognition

In 1955, Sara Hestrin-Lerner received a very important award called the Israel Prize. This prize is one of the highest honors given in Israel. She won it for her work in medical science.

Interestingly, Sara Hestrin-Lerner's brother, Shlomo Hestrin, also won the Israel Prize. He received his award in 1957 for his work in exact sciences.
