Sara Wennerberg-Reuter (born February 11, 1875, died March 29, 1959) was a talented Swedish musician. She was known as an organist and a composer. Her family had a strong connection to the arts. Her uncle, Gunnar Wennerberg, was a famous composer. Her father, Gunnar Brynolf Wennerberg, was an artist.

Early Life and Musical Training

Sara Wennerberg-Reuter began her music studies early. She learned to play the organ and studied harmony in Gothenburg, Sweden. Later, she attended the Stockholm Conservatory from 1893 to 1895. She graduated as a skilled organist.

Her musical journey continued abroad. From 1896 to 1898, she studied in Leipzig, Germany. There, she learned from famous teachers like Salomon Jadassohn and Carl Reinecke. She kept learning about composing music and counterpoint. From 1901 to 1902, she studied with Max Bruch in Berlin.

A Career in Music

Sara Wennerberg-Reuter became the organist at the Sofia Church in Stockholm. She held this important position for many years. She worked there from 1906 until 1945.

Her Compositions

Sara Wennerberg-Reuter wrote many pieces of music. Her compositions were often performed during her lifetime. Her works for male voice quartets were especially popular. She also wrote hymns and songs for mixed choirs. These pieces were often part of standard music collections.

Some of her other well-known works include her Violin Sonata from 1904. She also composed several pieces for the piano.

Cantatas and Tone Poems

Sara Wennerberg-Reuter wrote special pieces for the Sofia Church. She composed a cantata for the church's dedication in 1906. She wrote another cantata for the church in 1941.

She also created other cantatas. A cantata is a piece of music for voices and instruments. She wrote two tone poems as well. These were for solo voices, choir, and orchestra. One was called Necken, based on a poem by her uncle Gunnar Wennerberg. The other was Skogsrået, written in 1915. It used text by Viktor Rydberg. Both of these tone poems were very well received.
