Early Life and Athletics
Sarah Claxton grew up in Colchester, Essex, England. She went to Monkwick Infant and Junior schools. Later, she attended The Thomas Lord Audley School when she was 11 years old.
Starting with Long Jump
Before focusing on hurdles, Sarah was a talented long jumper. In 1997, she placed second in the long jump at the AAA Championships. The next year, in 1998, she finished fourth at the World Junior Championships. Her best long jump was 6.60 metres. She achieved this in August 2003.
Switching to Hurdles
Sarah then decided to focus mainly on hurdles. She competed in the World Indoor Championships several times. These included events in 2001, 2003, and 2004.
Career Highlights
In 2004, Sarah Claxton became the British 100 metres hurdles champion. She won the British AAA Championships title that year.
Olympic Games Appearances
Soon after winning the British title, Sarah represented Great Britain at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She competed in the women's 100 metres hurdles event.
She continued to show her strength in hurdles. Sarah won the AAA title again in 2005 and 2006. She also competed in the 2005 World Championships.
