Sarah was born in Belmont, New South Wales. She started playing rugby league in Emu Park, Queensland. She played for the Emu Park Emus team. This was in the local Rockhampton and Gladstone rugby league games.

Sarah has played for the Indigenous All Stars team. This team plays in special annual matches. She played in these matches in 2017 and 2022.
