In 2012, Sarah Leo was elected as the President of Nunatsiavut. She took over from the previous President, Jim Lyall. As President, she was the main leader of the Nunatsiavut government. She served one term and did not run for re-election in 2016. Johannes Lampe became the next President after her.

Currently, Sarah Leo is the chief operating officer for the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies. This group helps manage businesses and economic development for the Nunatsiavut region.
