Early Life and Education
Sarah Wayne Callies was born in La Grange, Illinois. When she was just one year old, her family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. Both of her parents, Valerie Wayne and David E. Callies, were professors at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
From a young age, Sarah loved acting. She often performed in school plays at the Punahou School. After finishing high school, she went to Dartmouth College. There, she earned a degree in drama in 1999. She also studied women's studies and Indigenous theology. Sarah continued to be involved in theater during her college years. Later, she went on to the National Theatre Conservatory, where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2002.
Acting Career Highlights
Sarah Wayne Callies moved to New York in 2003. Soon after, she got her first TV role on the show Queens Supreme. Her first main role was as Detective Jane Porter in Tarzan.
Breaking Out in Prison Break
After appearing in shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and NUMB3RS, Sarah got a big role in Prison Break. She played Sara Tancredi, a doctor who helps the main characters. She was in the first two seasons of the show.
Her character was written out of the third season. However, fans really wanted her back! Because of this, the show's creators decided to bring Sara Tancredi back for the fourth season. They found a way for her character to still be alive, which made many fans happy.
Surviving in The Walking Dead
In 2010, Sarah Callies was cast in another very popular show, The Walking Dead. She played Lori Grimes, a main character in this post-apocalyptic drama. The show is based on a famous comic book series.

Sarah Wayne Callies is married to Josh Winterhalt. They met while they were both students at Dartmouth College. In July 2007, they welcomed their first child, a daughter. Later, in 2013, they adopted a son, making their family complete.
