Where is Sarandí del Yí?
Sarandí del Yí is found on the north side of the Río Yi river. It sits where two main roads, Route 6 and Route 14, meet. The city is about 95 kilometers (59 miles) east of Durazno. Durazno is the capital city of the department. The closest town is Capilla del Sauce, about 18 kilometers (11 miles) south.
A Look at History
Sarandí del Yí started as a small village on December 19, 1875. A village is called a "Pueblo" in Spanish. Later, on June 13, 1906, it became a "Villa," which means it grew into a town. Finally, on August 23, 1956, it was officially named a "Ciudad," or city.
