Sarona is a small, quiet place in Washburn County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that aren't officially a city or a village with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called the town of Sarona.

You can find Sarona about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of a town called Shell Lake. It's right along U.S. Route 53, which is a major road. Sarona even has its own post office with the ZIP code 54870.

The Story of Sarona

How Sarona Began

Sarona was started a long time ago, in the year 1898. The very first person to settle there was Fran Sauer.

Where the Name Comes From

The name "Sarona" is a mix of two things. It takes part of Fran Sauer's last name. It also gets inspiration from the Sharon plain, a place mentioned in the Bible. When some people called Mennonites came to the area the next year, they thought the lush, green grass reminded them of the Sharon plain.

Sarona's Post Office

A post office has been open in Sarona since 1899. This means people have been sending and receiving mail there for over 120 years!
