Sase Narain (born January 27, 1925 – died August 25, 2020) was an important Guyanese politician and lawyer. He was known for being the Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana for a very long time, from 1971 to 1992. This made him the longest-serving Speaker in Guyana's history.

Early Life and Education
Sase Narain was born in a place called Pouderoyen in British Guiana on January 27, 1925. He went to the Modern Educational Institute in Georgetown for his schooling. After finishing high school, he traveled to the United Kingdom to study law. In 1957, he completed his law studies at the City Law School in London.
When he returned to Guyana, Narain became the President of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, a religious and cultural organization.
Speaker of the National Assembly
The Speaker of the National Assembly is like the leader of the country's main law-making group. They make sure meetings run smoothly and fairly. Sase Narain became the Speaker of Guyana's National Assembly in 1971. He held this important job for 21 years, until 1992.
In 1991, something unusual happened. Narain became the first Speaker in Guyana to remove a Member of Parliament from a meeting. This happened after a Minister threw a drinking glass.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving his role as Speaker in 1992, Sase Narain went back to working as a lawyer. He continued to practice law for many years. He finally retired from his law career in 2012.
Death
Sase Narain passed away on August 25, 2020, in Queenstown, Georgetown. He was 95 years old. Many people remembered him fondly. Former Prime Minister Hamilton Green praised Narain for his honesty and good judgment.

Throughout his life, Sase Narain received several special awards and honours for his service. These awards recognize people who have done great things for their country or community.
Order of Roraima, Guyana: This is a high honour given by Guyana.
Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George, UK (1969): This is an honour from the United Kingdom.
