Sasha Kathrine Siem, born in London in 1984, is a talented British-Norwegian singer, songwriter, and composer. She writes and performs her own music, blending different styles.
Her Early Life
Sasha Siem was born in London, England. Her father, Kristian Siem, is a businessman from Norway. Her mother, Karen Ann, is from South Africa. Sasha also has a brother, Charlie Siem, who is a well-known violinist.
Becoming a Musician
Sasha studied music and poetry at two famous universities: Girton College, Cambridge in England and Harvard University in the United States. By her early twenties, she was already writing music for big groups. These included the London Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Opera House. She also wrote for dance companies and other orchestras.
In 2010, Sasha won a British Composer Award. She was one of the youngest people to receive this honor. She also won the Arthur Bliss Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize.
Performing and Her Unique Sound
Sasha has performed at many festivals and venues. These include The Royal Opera House in London and (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City. She has also played at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.

Sasha released her first collection of songs, called an EP, on February 1, 2013. It was titled So Polite. Her first full album, Most Of The Boys, came out on March 2, 2015. It was recorded in Iceland.
Reviewers liked her music. Jim Wirth from Uncut magazine described her album as a mix of Björk and other unique sounds. Tarynn Law from The 405 called her song "My Friend" "gorgeous and emotive." Jamie Skey from Q magazine said her music was like a blend of Björk and Leonard Cohen.
In 2016, Sasha released her second album, Bird Burning. This album also received great reviews. Pip Williams from The Line of Best Fit said it was a "spectacular record." He noted Sasha's "startling ambition."
Other artists have also remixed Sasha's songs. These include Matthew Herbert and Susanne Sundfor.
