The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a special school in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is run by First Nations people. SIIT helps students learn skills and get ready for jobs or more education.
How SIIT Started
SIIT began in 1976. Back then, it was called the Saskatchewan Indian Community College. In 1985, it changed its name to what it is today. By July 1, 2000, the government of Saskatchewan officially recognized SIIT. This meant it was a real college, just like other schools for higher learning.
Where SIIT Is Located
SIIT has grown a lot over the years. As of 2025, it has three main campuses. It also has nine Career Centres. These centers help people find jobs and get training. SIIT even has two mobile units that travel to different places. Plus, there are over 35 community learning sites. These are places where students can learn right in their own communities across Saskatchewan.
How SIIT Is Run
SIIT is a non-profit organization. This means it uses all its money to help students and improve the school. It is guided by a special group called a Board of Chiefs. These are leaders from different First Nations communities. The board also includes people chosen by Tribal Councils. An executive member from the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is also part of this group. They all work together to make sure SIIT helps its students succeed.
