The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a special school in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is run by First Nations people. SIIT helps students learn skills for jobs and offers many different training programs.
SIIT's Journey: How It Began
SIIT started a long time ago, in 1976. Back then, it had a different name. It was called the Saskatchewan Indian Community College.
In 1985, its name changed to what it is today. It became the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.
A big step happened on July 1, 2000. The government of Saskatchewan officially recognized SIIT. This meant it was seen as a real college. It could offer important education and training programs.
Where SIIT Students Learn
As of 2021, SIIT has several places where students can learn. It has three main campuses. These are like the main school buildings.
SIIT also has nine Career Centres. These centers help people find jobs and get ready for work. There are also two mobile units. These units can travel to different places. They bring job help and training directly to communities.
On top of that, SIIT has over 35 community learning sites. These are smaller places in different communities. They make it easier for people all over the province to access education.
Who Helps Run SIIT?
SIIT is run by a special group of people. This group is called the Board of Governors. It includes First Nation Chiefs. It also has people chosen by Tribal Councils. An executive member from the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is also on the board.
SIIT is a non-profit organization. This means it uses all its money to help students and improve the school. It works within the education system of Saskatchewan.
