Satyendranath Dutta (born in 1882, died in 1922) was a famous Bengali poet. People called him the "wizard of rhymes" because he was so good at writing poems that flowed beautifully. He knew a lot about many things, like old Indian history, different cultures, and ancient stories.

Satyendranath Dutta's Early Life

Satyendranath Dutta was born on February 11, 1882. His birthplace was Nimta, in what was then British India. His father, Rajaninath Dutta, worked as a trader.

Satyendranath was the only child of his parents. His grandfather, Akshay Kumar Datta, was also a very important person. He was a great thinker, a social reformer, and a writer. He helped guide a famous magazine called the Tattwabodhini Patrika.

Education and Career Path

Satyendranath finished school at the Central Collegiate School. After that, he went to the General Assembly's Institution in Kolkata. This school is now known as Scottish Church College.

He left college without getting a degree. However, his time there helped him a lot for his future writing. He tried to join his father's business for a while. But he soon left it to focus completely on his studies and writing poems.

Satyendranath's Personal Life

In 1903, Satyendranath Dutta married Kanaklata Devi. She was the oldest daughter of Ishan Chandra Bose. Their families arranged the marriage, which was a common practice back then.

Kanaklata Devi came from a rich family in Howrah. After Satyendranath Dutta passed away in 1922, Kanaklata Devi lived a quiet life. She died many years later, in December 1967.

The Poet's Passing

Satyendranath Dutta died on June 25, 1922, when he was 40 years old. Two other very famous poets wrote about him after his death.

Rabindranath Tagore wrote a poem that honored Satyendranath. Kazi Nazrul Islam also wrote a poem called 'Sayendranath' to praise him. Today, a street in South Kolkata is named after him to remember his contributions.

Satyendranath Dutta's Works

Satyendranath Dutta wrote many poems. He first started writing for a Bengali magazine called Bharati. At the beginning, his writing style showed influences from poets like Michael Madhusudan Dutt. Later, his poems became more like those of Rabindranath Tagore.

Dutta used several different pen names when he wrote. Some of his pseudonyms included Nabakumar, Kaviratna, and Kalamgir.
