Sauges facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sauges was once a small village and a municipality in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Neuchâtel. Think of a canton like a state or a large region within a country.

What Was Sauges?

Sauges was a local government area, much like a town or a small city today, but it was also a village where people lived. For many years, it managed its own local affairs, like roads and public services, within the larger canton of Neuchâtel.

Where Was Sauges Located?

Sauges was situated in the western part of Switzerland, a country known for its beautiful mountains and lakes. The canton of Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking region of Switzerland, along the shores of Lake Neuchâtel.

How Did Sauges Change?

In 1888, Sauges underwent a big change. It joined together with another nearby municipality called Saint-Aubin. When two municipalities join, it's often to create a larger, more efficient community. After this merger, Sauges and Saint-Aubin became one new municipality known as Saint-Aubin-Sauges. This means that Sauges, as a separate municipality, no longer exists, but its history lives on as part of Saint-Aubin-Sauges.
