Savaş Ay was born in Gaziantep, Turkey. His parents, Turan Ay and Şükran, were both actors. He studied at the Marmara Academy of Commerce. After finishing his studies, he started his career in journalism.

Savaş Ay began working as a journalist in 1974. His first job was at a newspaper called Dünya. This newspaper focused on business and economics. Later, he worked for many other well-known newspapers. These included Tercüman, Vatan, Milliyet, and Sabah. He also worked for a news agency called Akajans.

Savaş Ay became very famous for his television show, A Takımı. This show started in 1993. It was a panel discussion series. This means that people would discuss important topics on the show.
