Savage Glacier is a large, slow-moving river of ice. It is located at the eastern end of Thurston Island in Antarctica. This glacier flows towards the east and ends at a place called Seraph Bay.
Scientists and explorers discovered Savage Glacier in February 1960. They found it during helicopter flights from two ships, the USS Glacier and the Burton Island. These ships were part of a special trip called the U.S. Navy Bellingshausen Sea Expedition.
The glacier was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. They chose the name to honor Lieutenant John Savage. He was a dental officer on the USS Glacier. Lieutenant Savage helped set up important survey points in the area. These points are used to create accurate maps.
