Savuka, sometimes called Johnny Clegg & Savuka, was a famous band from South Africa. It was formed in 1986 by Johnny Clegg. He started Savuka after his first band, Juluka, ended.
Savuka's music was special because it mixed different styles. They blended traditional Zulu music from South Africa with Celtic music and rock. This unique sound appealed to people of all backgrounds in South Africa. Their songs often had words in both English and Zulu.
The band also wrote many songs about important social issues. They spoke out against apartheid, which was a system of unfair rules that separated people based on their race in South Africa. Some of their most well-known songs are "Asimbonanga" and "Third World Child". These songs came from their 1987 album, Third World Child.
Tragically, the band's percussionist, Dudu Zulu, passed away in 1992. Savuka wrote the song "The Crossing" as a tribute to him.
