Schönenberg was once a municipality in Switzerland. It was located in the Horgen district, within the Canton of Zürich.
On January 1, 2019, Schönenberg joined with another municipality called Hütten. Both became part of the larger municipality of Wädenswil.

Exploring Schönenberg's Geography
Schönenberg covers an area of about 11 square kilometers (4.2 square miles). A large part of this land, 77.1%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 11.3% of the area.
About 9.2% of the land has buildings or roads on it. The remaining 2.4% is made up of non-productive areas. These include rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
In 1996, houses and other buildings made up 7% of the total area. Roads and other transport paths covered 2.2%. Water, like streams and lakes, made up 1.3% of the non-productive land. As of 2007, 3.2% of the area was being built on.
The Teufenbachweiher is a reservoir. It holds water from the Teufenbach creek.

Schönenberg has a population of 1,832 people. As of 2007, about 8.9% of the people living there were foreign nationals. In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (49.6%) and females (50.4%).
Over the last ten years, the number of people living in Schönenberg grew by 11.6%. Most people in Schönenberg speak German (96.5%). French is the second most common language (0.8%), followed by English (0.8%).

A small number of people belonged to other religions (1.4%). Some did not state their religion (1.8%). About 8.8% of the population were atheist or agnostic.
Getting Around Schönenberg: Transportation
The Zimmerberg bus line helps people travel in the Zimmerberg region and parts of the Sihl valley. This bus service is run by the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU).
There are also two Postauto bus routes (150 and 160). These routes connect Schönenberg to the rest of the ZVV public transport network.
