Schneider Crossroads is a small, undeveloped area in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is an unincorporated community, meaning it doesn't have its own local government like a town or city. It's mainly known as the spot where two important roads, State Route 620 and State Route 609, cross.

About Schneider Crossroads

Schneider Crossroads is located in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is about 5.3 miles northwest of Centreville. The area is mostly undeveloped. It has only a few businesses. You can find a florist's shop and a place called Cox Farms there.

Nearby Areas

To the northeast of the crossroads, you will find the Pleasant Valley Golf Club. Other parts of the area are undeveloped parks. These parks are managed by the Fairfax County Park Authority.

Solving Traffic Problems

The crossroads used to be a major traffic bottleneck. This means a lot of cars would get stuck there. Traffic was managed by four-way stop signs. This caused long delays, especially for people living in Loudoun County. Loudoun County is just west of the crossroads.

In 2012, Loudoun County offered over a million dollars. They wanted to help pay for upgrades to the intersection. This was because their residents were most affected by the traffic. Even though the intersection is completely in Fairfax County, they helped.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) studied the problem. They decided that a roundabout was the best solution. A roundabout is a circular intersection. Cars drive around a central island instead of stopping at traffic lights or stop signs. This helps traffic flow more smoothly.

The roundabout was built between 2015 and 2016. It has greatly improved traffic flow at the crossroads. However, the two-lane Braddock Road to the east of the roundabout still causes issues. It is now the main reason for slow traffic in the mornings, especially for cars heading east.
