Early Life and Musical Inspiration
Bakari Ward grew up listening to famous rappers. Some of his favorites were Lil Wayne, G Herbo, and 50 Cent. He enjoyed copying their styles and rapping with his friends. He started recording his own music in 2018. By 2019, he was taking his music career very seriously.
When he was younger, Bakari also loved playing basketball. He was part of a basketball team, either through a club or his school.
Scorey's music often gets its ideas from important people in his life. He mentions a friend named Leah in many of his songs. He also talks about Zachary "Zuly" Holloway. Zachary appeared in many of Scorey's first music videos. Scorey's song "Victim" was filmed at a gathering to remember Holloway.
Scorey's Music Career Journey
Scorey's first song was "Freddy Krueger". It came out on September 1, 2019. This song caught the eye of rapper Polo G. Polo G saw it on a friend's Instagram story. That friend was signed to the same music label as Scorey. Polo G then reached out to Scorey on Instagram.
Just a few days later, Polo G asked Scorey to perform with him. This was at Webster Hall in New York City. It was part of Polo G's Die a Legend tour. Other rappers like Yungeen Ace, Luh Kel, and Toosii were also there. Around this time, Scorey quit his summer job. He worked as a janitor at Green Lakes State Park. This job helped him pay for his studio time and music videos.
While recording his song "Moods", Polo G asked Scorey to join his new record label. This label was called Only Dreamers Achieve. It was a partnership with Columbia Records. Scorey agreed and became the first artist to sign with the label. His song "Dior You" was the first one released under this new label. It came out on March 12, 2021. Later, Scorey was featured on Polo G's third album. This album was called Hall of Fame and came out in June 2021.
