Herbert Randall Wright III (born October 8, 1995), known by his stage name G Herbo, is an American rapper from Chicago, Illinois. He was previously known as Lil Herb.

G Herbo started his career at age 16 when he signed with a record label in Chicago. He became known for his mixtapes, including Welcome to Fazoland (2014), Pistol P Project (2014), and Ballin Like I'm Kobe (2015).

His first official album, Humble Beast (2017), received positive reviews from critics. He later released more successful albums, including Swervo (2018) with producer Southside. His albums PTSD (2020), 25 (2021), and Survivor's Remorse (2022) all reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 music chart.

Early Life

Wright grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He was a student at Hyde Park Academy High School but left at age 16 to focus on his music career. Some of his biggest musical influences were rappers like Meek Mill, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, and Lil Wayne.

He is good friends with fellow rapper Lil Bibby. They have worked together on many songs. Both rappers are part of a group called N.L.M.B., which stands for "Never Leave My Brothers." Wright has said that N.L.M.B. is a "brotherhood" that supports each other.

Music Career

2012–2014: Getting Started

G Herbo and Lil Bibby first got a lot of attention for their song "Kill...", which became very popular on YouTube. They became even more famous when the Canadian rapper Drake called them "the future" of hip-hop.

On February 17, 2014, G Herbo released his first mixtape, Welcome to Fazoland. He named the mixtape to honor his friend, Fazon Robinson, who was one of the first friends he lost to violence in Chicago. The mixtape was praised by critics for its smart lyrics.

Later in 2014, G Herbo worked with famous artists like Nicki Minaj on the song "Chiraq" and with Common on the song "The Neighborhood." He was also featured in XXL magazine as a rising star.

2014–2016: More Mixtapes

On December 26, 2014, G Herbo released another mixtape called Pistol P Project. In 2015, he was a guest on the remix of Chief Keef's song "Faneto" with other Chicago rappers.

In June 2015, he released a single called "XXL". The magazine praised the song, saying he "switches between different flows effortlessly." A year later, in 2016, G Herbo was chosen for the XXL Freshman Class, a list of the year's most promising new artists.

On September 29, 2015, he released his third mixtape, Ballin Like I'm Kobe. He named it in memory of his friend Jacobi D. Herring. Around this time, he officially changed his name from Lil Herb to G Herbo.

2016–2018: First Studio Album

In 2016, G Herbo announced that his first studio album would be called Humble Beast. He released a few singles leading up to the album. He also released his fourth mixtape, Strictly 4 My Fans, on November 17, 2016.

In 2017, he released Welcome To Fazoland 1.5, which included songs that didn't make it onto his first mixtape. His official debut album, Humble Beast, was released on September 22, 2017. It featured singles like "Red Snow" and "I Like." He later released a deluxe version of the album with extra songs in 2018.

In March 2018, G Herbo's freestyle over the "Who Run It" beat became very popular. It was so well-liked that a full remix was released, and rapper Lil Uzi Vert later joined him for another version.

On July 27, 2018, G Herbo released the album Swervo, which was produced entirely by Southside. The album featured artists like 21 Savage, Chief Keef, and Juice Wrld. He followed this up with another album produced by Southside, Still Swervin, on February 1, 2019.

On February 28, 2020, he released the album PTSD. It featured many popular artists, including Chance the Rapper, Juice Wrld, and Lil Uzi Vert. The album was a big success, reaching number 7 on the Billboard 200 chart.

On December 18, 2020, G Herbo released a song called "Statement." In the song, he talked about his personal life and career.

His fourth album, 25, was released on July 2, 2021. It included the singles "Break Yoself" and "Really Like That." This album also performed well on the charts. G Herbo has also been featured on songs by other artists, including posthumous albums by his friend King Von.

Personal Life

Wright has a son, born in 2018, from a previous relationship. He is engaged to Taina Williams, the stepdaughter of rapper Fabolous. They have a son, born on May 27, 2021.

Charity Work

G Herbo gives back to his community in Chicago. In 2018, he helped redevelop a former elementary school. His goal was to create a space with music equipment for young people who want to be musicians. The center also planned to offer free programs and sports to keep kids active and engaged.

In July 2020, he started an initiative called Swervin' Through Stress. This program provides young Black people with mental health resources over a 12-week course. He was inspired by his own experiences and wanted to help others in his community. He said, "I don't want to be that guy to have all the resources to change my neighborhood... and do nothing with it. That's why it's so important to me."
