How It Started: Opening in 1915

The stadium first opened its doors in 1915. Back then, it was called Scotstoun Showgrounds. It was created by the Glasgow Agricultural Society for farming shows. Soon, people started using it for sports, and a main stand was built. The stadium had a big makeover between 2008 and 2010. It officially reopened on January 14, 2010, with the Princess Royal attending the ceremony.

Modern Updates: Recent History

Scotstoun Stadium is part of a larger area called the Scotstoun Sports Campus. This campus is a big leisure center open to everyone. It has top-notch facilities for many sports. In 2018, the swimming pool at the campus was used for synchronised swimming during the European Aquatics Championships. Since September 2018, it has also hosted the Murray Trophy – Glasgow, a professional men's tennis tournament.

Big Changes: The Renovation

The renovations from 2008 to 2010 brought many improvements. New stadium buildings were added, with offices and meeting rooms. An indoor 100-meter sprint track was built. The outdoor 400-meter track was redone, and a full-size rugby pitch was placed in the middle. The stands were also made bigger, creating a north and south stand that can seat up to 5,000 people.

In 2010, new artificial pitches and rugby training fields were also added. The stadium now also has a special gym for athletes to build strength and fitness.
