Scray Hill facts for kids
Scray Hill is a tall hill in Brown County, Wisconsin. It stands about 892 feet (272 meters) high. You can find it just south of a town called De Pere. Most of the hill is in the Town of Glenmore, with some parts in the Town of Ledgeview.
This hill is an important spot! It has towers for TV and radio stations. It also holds a big storage building for the Central Brown County Water Authority (CBCWA), which helps provide water to the area. Scray Hill is part of a huge natural feature called the Niagara Escarpment. People in Wisconsin sometimes call this part "the Ledge." It's a long, steep slope that forms the edge of a high, flat land area, stretching all the way from New York to Wisconsin.
Discovering Scray Hill's Past
The Scray family were some of the very first people to settle on this hill. They worked hard, farming the land and digging for rocks in a quarry. They even built the first road on the hill!
Today, a company called Daanen-Janssen Co. still works at the Scray Quarry. They continue to dig and remove materials from the hill.
The Mystery of the Rolling Car
There's a fun urban legend about a nearby golf course. From 1964 to 2003, it was called Mystery Hills. People say it got its name from a "magic spot" on the road.
The story goes that if you turned off your car's engine and put it in neutral, the car would roll uphill! This is actually a type of gravity hill illusion. It tricks your eyes into thinking the car is rolling up when it's really going down a slight slope. This amazing illusion was even written about in Ripley's Believe It or Not! back in the early 1930s. Today, the golf course is known as Ledgeview Golf Course.
Scray Hill Park: A Place to Explore

Scray Hill Park is a beautiful park that covers about 17 acres (7 hectares). It's located just east of the hill's highest point. The park was created in 2008 and officially opened to visitors in 2010. It's a great place for people to enjoy nature and explore the area.
