History
How it Started
The Seamen's Hospital got money and support from a company called Jardine Matheson and Company. It was located in Wan Chai, a part of Hong Kong. At that time, Hong Kong was a British colony. The hospital also had support from the British Royal Navy.
Why it Closed
The hospital faced money problems and had to close in 1873. After it closed, a new hospital called the Royal Naval Hospital took its place. The land where the Seamen's Hospital once stood in Wan Chai later became the Ruttonjee Hospital in the late 1940s.
