Sebastian Antero Aho (born 26 July 1997) is a professional ice hockey player from Finland. He plays as a centre or left wing for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is also an alternate captain for the team. Before joining the NHL, Aho played for Oulun Kärpät in Finland's top league, the SM-liiga. He was picked by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Playing Hockey

Sebastian Aho started his professional hockey journey in Finland. He played for a team called Oulun Kärpät.

Starting in Finland

Aho made his first appearance in the SM-liiga during the 2013–14 season. He quickly showed his talent. In the 2014–15 season playoffs, Aho scored a very important goal. It was the winning goal in overtime of the final game. This helped Kärpät win the Finnish championship!

Joining the NHL

Hockey experts thought Aho was one of the best young European players. The Carolina Hurricanes chose him in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He was the 35th player picked overall.

On 13 June 2016, Aho signed his first contract with the Hurricanes. He made his NHL debut on 13 October 2016. In that first game, he got his first point by helping a teammate score. On 12 November 2016, he scored his first two NHL goals in one game!

Aho scored his first hat-trick (three goals in one game) on 31 January 2017. He was the youngest player in the Hurricanes' history to do this!

Big Moments and Achievements

After the 2017–18 season, Aho played for the Finnish national team. He represented his country at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.

In the 2018–19 season, Aho set a new team record. He earned a point in the first 12 games of the season. This tied an NHL record for starting the season with a long point streak. He was also chosen to play in the 2019 NHL All-Star Game. This is a special game where the best players from the league compete.

On 13 January 2019, Aho scored his second career hat-trick. He led the Hurricanes in scoring during their first trip to the playoffs in 10 years.

In 2019, Aho signed a new five-year contract with the Hurricanes. This showed how important he was to the team. In 2023, he signed an even longer contract. This new deal will keep him with the Hurricanes until the 2031–32 season. It shows he is a key player for the team's future.
