Sebastian Matthias Nerz, born on July 13, 1983, is a German politician. He is also a bioinformatician, which means he uses computer science to study biology. He was the leader of the Pirate Party Germany from May 2011 to April 2012. He later left the Pirate Party Germany in February 2014.

Early Life and Education
Sebastian Nerz was born in Reutlingen, West Germany. His parents, Rolf-Dieter and Christiane Uta Nerz, were both doctors. Sebastian finished high school at Geschwister-Scholl-Schule in 2002.
After high school, he completed his mandatory civil service. This is a type of community service some young people in Germany used to do instead of military service. In 2003, he began studying bioinformatics at the University of Tübingen. He earned his diploma in bioinformatics in 2010.
His Political Journey
Sebastian Nerz first joined a political party in 2001. He became a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Tübingen. He stayed with the CDU until 2009.
In June 2009, before the German federal election, he joined the Pirate Party. This party focuses on topics like digital rights and internet freedom. He quickly became active in the party. He was a board member for the new Tübingen district group. He also helped coordinate regional politics for the party in Baden-Württemberg.
From April 2010 to May 2011, Sebastian Nerz led the Pirate Party's regional group in Baden-Württemberg. In May 2011, he was chosen to be the head of the entire Pirate Party Germany. He served in this role for about a year. Bernd Schlömer took over as leader on April 28, 2012. Sebastian Nerz left the Pirate Party Germany in February 2014. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Free Democratic Party.
