Sebree Island is a small island located in Muir Inlet, which is part of Glacier Bay in Alaska. This beautiful area is known for its stunning glaciers and wild nature.
Naming the Island
Sebree Island gets its name from a very important person. It was named after Uriel Sebree, who was a high-ranking officer in the United States Navy. He also served as the Governor of American Samoa, which means he was in charge of the government there for a time.
The island was also known by another name in the past. In 1891, a person named Cushing called it Headland Island. Interestingly, a nearby mountain, Sebree Peak, is also named after the same officer, Uriel Sebree.
