History of Sedalia
Sedalia has some important historical places. The Dr. Joseph A. McLean House and the Palmer Memorial Institute Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places recognized by the government for their historical importance.
Where is Sedalia?
Sedalia is found in the eastern part of Guilford County. A main road, U.S. Route 70 (also called Burlington Road), goes right through the middle of the town.
This road can take you about 11 miles (18 kilometers) east to the city of Burlington. If you go about 11 miles (18 kilometers) west, you will reach Greensboro.
Another big highway, Interstate 40, passes just south of Sedalia. You can get onto Interstate 40 from Exit 135.

Places to Visit
One of the most interesting places in Sedalia is the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum. This museum is located on the site where the Palmer Memorial Institute used to be.
The Palmer Memorial Institute was a special school for African-American students. It was open from 1902 to 1971. The museum now teaches visitors about the school's history and the life of its founder, Charlotte Hawkins Brown.
