The Seekonk Meadows Park, often called The Meadows, is a special park in Seekonk, Massachusetts. It's right in the middle of town, covering eight acres. What makes it unique? It was built on an old landfill! The park is also located around the Seekonk Public Library. When it officially opened on June 23, 2012, it became the very first park in Seekonk.

Building Seekonk Meadows Park

Planning for this amazing park started in June 2008. The actual work began in the spring of 2009. The first big step was getting the land ready. Remember, it used to be a landfill years before!

To help pay for the park's equipment, a special event called the "Seekonk Meadows Dinner Dance" was held. This fundraiser took place on January 16, 2010, at the Johnson and Wales Inn in Seekonk. It was a huge success!

With enough money, the team could start the real construction. They moved old waste, covered the land, and added vents. They also put in drainage systems and prepared the ground. Finally, they added hard surfaces, good soil, and planted seeds. The very last step was putting up a fence around the park. This fence separates The Meadows from the Seekonk Library parking lot. They also created gravel pathways that wind all through the park. All this work continued through the spring and summer of 2010.

Fun at Seekonk Meadows Park

Construction finished in the spring of 2012. On June 23, 2012, Seekonk Meadows Park officially opened its gates to everyone!

The park is a great place to visit. It has a beautiful wildflower and native plant garden. You can walk along the pathways or relax on the benches. There's even an amphitheater! This outdoor stage hosts fun musical performances. You might hear groups like the "Swing Orchestra," playing songs from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Local music groups from the town's school system also perform here.

Besides music, the park offers other cool activities. You can join in on crafts or go on nature walks. The park's opening was extra special because it happened during the town's 200th birthday celebration. Many events were held at the park during this time. People enjoyed flying kites, having barbecues, and listening to different musical groups.
