Seen's Artistic Journey
For 16 years, Seen painted amazing art all over New York City. His artwork was especially famous on the 2, 5, and 6 subway lines. He created many "whole-car top-to-bottoms." These are huge paintings that cover an entire subway car from top to bottom. Many of these became famous images from that time.
In the early 1980s, Seen began making art on canvas. These artworks were shown in art galleries and bought by museums and private collectors. He kept painting New York City subway trains until 1989. This was much longer than many other artists, who stopped because of pressure from the MTA. Seen was also featured in a 1983 TV documentary called Style Wars.
Beyond Subway Art
In the late 1980s, Seen also started doing tattoo art. He opened a tattoo shop called Tattoo Seen. It became one of the most successful tattoo studios in New York City.
More recently, Seen has created different kinds of art. He makes three-dimensional sculptures. He also uses mixed media, which means he combines different materials. Often, he uses old or discarded items he finds on the street. He has also hand-painted many New York subway maps. Seen continues to show his art around the world. He also works with other famous artists, like Banksy.
In 2009, the Seen Gallery opened in Paris, France. Later, it became the Seen Studios. Seen has also focused on painting comic book heroes. He even has his own clothing line. It features T-shirts with his unique lettering and comic hero drawings.
