Seigo Shimokawa (下川 誠吾, Shimokawa Seigo, born November 17, 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several teams in Japan's top football leagues.

Playing Career

Seigo Shimokawa was born in Amagasaki, Japan, on November 17, 1975. He started his professional football journey in 1996. He joined Cerezo Osaka, a club in the J1 League, which is Japan's highest football division.

When he first joined, Seigo didn't play much. He was behind another experienced goalkeeper named Gilmar Rinaldi. But by July 1997, Seigo became the main goalkeeper for Cerezo Osaka. He played in many matches for a long time. During his time there, his team reached the finals of the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2001 and 2003. This is a big knockout football competition in Japan.

In 2003, a younger goalkeeper named Daisuke Tada started getting more chances to play. This meant Seigo played less often. So, in 2004, he moved to a new team, Kawasaki Frontale. At Kawasaki Frontale, he again found it hard to get playing time. Other goalkeepers like Shinya Yoshihara and Takashi Aizawa were often chosen over him.

In 2006, Seigo moved to Oita Trinita. Here, he had to compete with another talented goalkeeper, Shusaku Nishikawa, for the starting spot. In 2006, he didn't play much. However, in 2007 and 2008, he got more chances. This was because Nishikawa was sometimes injured or not playing his best.

In 2008, Seigo's team, Oita Trinita, won the J.League Cup. This was a very important moment for the club, as it was their first major title ever!

However, in 2009, Seigo played very little. That year, Oita Trinita faced financial problems. This meant they had to let go of many players, including Nishikawa. In 2010, Seigo became the main goalkeeper again. But soon, a young goalkeeper named Keisuke Shimizu started playing more. At the end of the 2010 season, Seigo Shimokawa decided to retire from professional football.
