Seigo Shimokawa (下川 誠吾, Shimokawa Seigo, born November 17, 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several teams in Japan's professional leagues.

Seigo Shimokawa's Football Journey

Seigo Shimokawa was born in Amagasaki, Japan, on November 17, 1975. He began his professional football career in 1996. He joined Cerezo Osaka, a team in the top Japanese league, the J1 League.

Playing for Cerezo Osaka

When he first joined Cerezo Osaka, Seigo Shimokawa did not play much. However, from July 1997, he became the main goalkeeper for the team. He played in many matches for a long time. During his time with Cerezo Osaka, the team reached the finals of the Emperor's Cup twice. They were runners-up in the 2001 Emperor's Cup and again in the 2003 Emperor's Cup. In 2003, he started to play less as a younger goalkeeper, Daisuke Tada, got more chances.

Moving to New Teams

In 2004, Seigo Shimokawa moved to Kawasaki Frontale. Here, he found it hard to get playing time. Other goalkeepers like Shinya Yoshihara and Takashi Aizawa were often chosen instead.

In 2006, he joined Oita Trinita. At this club, he competed for the goalkeeper spot with Shusaku Nishikawa. In 2007 and 2008, Seigo Shimokawa played in many matches. This happened when Nishikawa was injured or not playing his best.

Winning the J.League Cup

A big moment for Seigo Shimokawa and Oita Trinita came in 2008. The team won the 2008 J.League Cup. This was the first major trophy in the club's history, a very exciting achievement!

Later Career and Retirement

In 2009, Seigo Shimokawa played less often. That year, Oita Trinita was moved down to the J2 League, the second division. Due to money problems, the club let many players go at the end of 2009.

In 2010, Seigo Shimokawa started as the main goalkeeper again. However, a younger player, Keisuke Shimizu, soon began to play more. Seigo Shimokawa decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2010 season. He played a total of 242 league matches throughout his career.
