Seiji Honda's Club Career
Seiji Honda was born in Kitajima, Tokushima, Japan, on February 25, 1976. After studying at Chukyo University, he began his professional football journey in 1995.
Playing for Nagoya Grampus Eight
Honda joined Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1995. During his time there, he was often a backup goalkeeper. This means he didn't play in many matches because other goalkeepers, like Yuji Ito and later Seigo Narazaki, were usually chosen to play instead.
Loan to Bellmare Hiratsuka
In 1999, Seiji Honda moved to Bellmare Hiratsuka on a loan. A loan means he played for a different team for a short time. This was a good chance for him to play more, and he made his first professional appearances for the club.
Returning to Nagoya and Moving On
After his loan, Honda returned to Nagoya Grampus Eight in 2000. He continued to be a backup goalkeeper there. In August 2004, he moved to Vissel Kobe. At Vissel Kobe, he also faced tough competition from other goalkeepers like Makoto Kakegawa and Kota Ogi, so he didn't play as much as he might have wanted.
Time at Thespa Kusatsu
In 2007, Seiji Honda joined J2 League club Thespa Kusatsu. This was a great move for him! He became the main goalkeeper and played in many matches. He was a regular player, which means he was chosen to play almost every game.
Retirement from Football
In 2009, Seiji Honda had an injury. Because of this, he played less often. At the end of the 2009 season, he decided to retire from professional football.
Playing for Japan's Youth Team
Seiji Honda also had the chance to represent his country. In April 1995, he was chosen to play for the Japan U-20 national team. This team is for players under 20 years old. He played in two matches for Japan in the 1995 World Youth Championship.
