Sellrain's Past: A Look Back
Early Beginnings
The first small community in Sellrain grew up around a special natural spring called Rothenbrunn. This spring had water with iron in it, which people believed had healing powers. Important people from Innsbruck, like nobles and citizens, used this spring a lot, even way back in the Middle Ages.
The Name of Sellrain
The name "Sellrain" first appeared in a written document in the year 1271. How the name came to be is still debated by historians. It might come from an old field name, selia, which meant 'mountain hut for cows' (a Sennhütte). What we do know for sure is that the name is very old, even older than the Roman times!
