Semitropic (once called Semi Tropic) is a small, unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but is instead part of a larger county.

Semitropic is about 10.5 miles (17 kilometers) east of a town called Lost Hills. It sits at an elevation of 256 feet (78 meters) above sea level.

History of Semitropic

Semitropic got its name from the Semitropic Fruit Company. This company was important in the area's early days.

A post office served the community for many years. It was open from 1893 until 1913. During that time, the post office moved its location a couple of times, once in 1904 and again in 1905.

What is Semitropic known for?

The area around Semitropic is known for the Semitropic Oil Field. This is a place where oil is found deep underground. The community itself is quite small and quiet today.
