Serafín Rojo Caamaño, also known as el marqués de Serafín, was a Spanish cartoon artist and painter. He was born in Madrid in 1925 and passed away on June 4, 2003, at the age of 77.

Serafín Rojo became famous for his funny drawings and paintings. He signed his work using the name el marqués de Serafín.

Early Life and First Comics

Serafín Rojo's journey into art began when he was young. Because of the Civil War, he moved to Valencia. There, he became very interested in drawing.

In 1941, he published his very first comic. This was the start of his long and successful career.

Working with Magazines

In 1943, Serafín Rojo joined a publishing company called Editorial Valenciana. He worked on many popular magazines for children and families. Some of these magazines included Jaimito, S.O.S., Mariló, and Pumby.

Later, he started working regularly for a weekly magazine called La Codorniz. Around 1958, he created his very popular characters known as the marchionesses. These characters were well-loved by readers.

Later Career and Painting

The magazine La Codorniz stopped publishing in 1978. After this, Serafín Rojo spent more of his time on painting. He created beautiful works using oil paints and watercolors.

He also illustrated several funny books. These included Las nobles brutas and Carmen Underground.

In 1990, Serafín Rojo helped bring back La Codorniz magazine. The new version was called La Golondriz. He continued to share his artistic talent with new readers.

Serafín Rojo passed away in Madrid on June 4, 2003. He left behind a wonderful collection of cartoons and paintings.
