Sergey Nikolayevich Galitsky (Russian: Серге́й Николаевич Га́лицкий; born Sergey Nikolayevich Arutyunyan) is a very successful Russian entrepreneur. He is known for founding and co-owning Magnit, which became one of Russia's largest retail store chains. He is also the president of FC Krasnodar, a well-known football club. In 2021, Forbes Russia estimated his wealth to be around $3.5 billion.

Early Life and Education

Sergey Arutyunyan was born on August 14, 1967. His birthplace was Lazarevskoye, a town near Sochi in southern Russia. His mother is Russian, and his father is of Russian-Armenian heritage. Later in his life, Sergey adopted his wife's family name, Galitsky. From 1985 to 1987, he completed his required service in the Soviet army.

Sergey began working in a commercial bank in Krasnodar in 1989. At that time, he was a second-year student. He graduated from the Economics faculty of Kuban State University in 1993.

Building a Business Empire

From Cosmetics to Groceries

After finishing university, Sergey Galitsky started his first company in 1994. This company, named "Transasia," focused on selling cosmetics and perfumes to other businesses in large quantities. This is called "wholesale" trade.

In 1995, he decided to leave "Transasia" and founded a new company called "Tander." Three years later, in 1998, he built his first "distribution center." This is a big warehouse where products are stored and then sent out to stores. Soon after, he opened the very first "Magnit" grocery store in Krasnodar. This happened right after a big economic challenge in Russia in 1998.

By 2000, Sergey Galitsky focused entirely on "retail," which means selling products directly to customers in stores. He quickly built Magnit into the largest chain of stores in Russia. In 2006, his company offered its shares to the public for the first time, a process called an "IPO." This made the company worth about $1.9 billion.

Founding FC Krasnodar and the Famous Park

Sergey Galitsky has a great passion for sports. In 2008, he founded his own football club, FC Krasnodar. He also invested in building a modern stadium for the club, which was completed in 2013.

Around the stadium, a large and beautiful park was created in 2017. This park has grown even bigger over the past decade and is now one of Krasnodar's most famous places. Many people call it Galitsky Park, even though it's officially named after the city.

New Ventures and Business Changes

In 2018, Sergey Galitsky made a significant business decision. He sold a large part of his ownership in the Magnit retail chain to a Russian bank called VTB. This sale involved 29.1% of his shares and was worth 138 billion rubles.

More recently, in 2019, Sergey Galitsky started a new business venture in winemaking. He grows grapes near the village of Gostagaevskaya in Krasnodar Krai. The wines produced there are sold under the brand name "Galitsky & Galitsky."

Family and Interests

Sergey Galitsky was married to Viktoria Galitskaya. They have one daughter named Polina Galitskaya.
