FC Krasnodar is a professional football club from Krasnodar, Russia. They play in the top Russian league, the Russian Premier League. The team achieved a big success by winning the league title in the 2024–25 season!

The club started in 2008. It quickly moved up through the ranks of Russian football. By 2009, they were in the second-highest league. Then, in 2011, they reached the Russian Premier League, the highest level of football in Russia.

In 2013, FC Krasnodar began building its own amazing stadium, the Krasnodar Stadium. It has seats for over 35,000 fans and opened in October 2016. Before that, they played their home games at the Kuban Stadium.

Due to international events, the team, like other Russian clubs, was not able to compete in European club competitions after 2022.

Club History: The Rise of FC Krasnodar

The club's founder and owner is Sergey Galitsky. He is a Russian businessman who loves football. He has even been recognized for his efforts to help football grow in Russia.

Starting Small: Early Years

FC Krasnodar officially became a professional team in February 2008. This meant they could join the Second Division, which is the third level of professional football in Russia. Their very first official game was a 0–0 draw.

In their first season (2008), they finished third. Even though this usually doesn't lead to promotion, they were invited to join the First Division in 2009! This was because some other teams couldn't participate.

After this unexpected promotion, Nurbiy Khakunov became the team's manager. In their first season in the First Division, Krasnodar finished tenth. The next year, under manager Sergei Tashuyev, they improved to fifth place. During this time, they also played exciting local derby matches against another Krasnodar team, FC Kuban.

Reaching the Top: Premier League Promotion

In December 2010, Slavoljub Muslin from Serbia became the new manager. Before the next season even started, FC Krasnodar got another big promotion! They moved up to the Russian Premier League, the highest football league in Russia, even though they had finished fifth in the First Division. This happened because a few other clubs had financial difficulties and couldn't join the Premier League. So, on January 25, 2011, FC Krasnodar took their place.

Their first few seasons in the Premier League had mixed results. They played tough matches against strong teams like CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow. The club owner, Sergey Galitsky, wanted the team to play exciting football. He believed in growing the club steadily, step by step, rather than just buying expensive players. They finished ninth in their first Premier League season (2011–12) and tenth in the 2012–13 season.

In August 2013, Oleg Kononov became the manager. The team also brought in new talented players like Ari, Artur Jędrzejczyk, and Andreas Granqvist.

Becoming a Top Contender and Winning the Title

These changes helped the club a lot! In the 2013–14 season, they finished in the top five of the Premier League. This meant they could play in the UEFA Europa League for the first time! They also reached the Russian Cup Final, but lost in a penalty shootout.

FC Krasnodar did very well in the Europa League. They successfully passed three qualification rounds and reached the Group Stage. They continued to play in the Europa League group stage in the 2015–16 season, even winning a game against the famous German team Borussia Dortmund.

The 2019–20 season was challenging due to many player injuries. However, they still managed to qualify for the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in their history! This was a huge achievement for the club.

After 2022, the team, like other Russian clubs, was suspended from European competitions. This meant they could only play in domestic leagues.

In the 2023–24 season, Krasnodar was a strong contender for the league title. They led the league for a long time. Even after a change in manager, with Murad Musayev returning, they finished a fantastic second place. They almost won the title on the very last day!

The club's hard work paid off in the 2024–25 season. After a tough start, they went on an incredible winning streak of 11 games. This helped them climb to the top of the standings. On the final day of the season, May 24, 2025, FC Krasnodar beat Dynamo Moscow 3–0 and won their first-ever league title! It was a historic moment for the club and its fans.

In the most recent 2025–26 season, Krasnodar once again showed their strength. They led the league for much of the season but finished as runner-ups to Zenit on the second-to-last matchday.

But FC Krasnodar dreamed of having its very own, modern stadium. In 2013, they started building the amazing Krasnodar Stadium! It can hold over 35,000 fans. The stadium was designed by experts from England and Germany. It's a fantastic place that meets all the rules for hosting big international games.

Inside the stadium, there are cool things like a club shop, a museum, and even special rooms for kids. It's a place for everyone to enjoy the game!
