Sergio Ruiz Alonso, born on December 16, 1994, is a Spanish professional football player. He mostly plays as a defensive midfielder for Granada CF, but he can also play as a right-back defender.

Sergio Ruiz: A Football Journey

Sergio Ruiz started his football journey in Spain. He grew up in El Astillero, a town in Cantabria. As a young player, he trained with several youth teams. These included CD Arenas de Trajanas, CA Perines, and CD Laredo.

Early Days and First Steps

In 2013, after finishing his youth training, Sergio joined CD Pontejos. This team played in the Tercera División, which is the fourth level of Spanish football. He made his first team appearance during the 2013–14 season.

After playing for Pontejos, Sergio continued his career in the fourth division. He played for SD Atlético Albericia and then for Racing de Santander B. Racing B is the reserve team for Racing de Santander.

Rising Through the Ranks

Sergio's hard work paid off when he was promoted to Racing de Santander's main team. This happened for the 2016–17 season. At that time, Racing Santander was playing in Segunda División B, which is the third level of Spanish football.

On January 17, 2019, Sergio signed a new contract with Racing Santander. This contract kept him with the team until 2022. He played a big part in the 2018–19 season. He scored six goals in 34 games. His team, Racing Santander, then moved up to Segunda División, the second level of Spanish football.

Sergio made his professional debut in the Segunda División on August 17, 2019. He came on as a substitute in a game against Málaga CF.

Playing in New Leagues

On July 8, 2020, it was announced that Sergio Ruiz would join Charlotte FC. This team was new and would start playing in MLS in the United States in 2022. He was the very first player to sign for Charlotte FC.

Before playing for Charlotte FC, Sergio went on loan. On September 3, 2020, he joined UD Las Palmas. This team played in the Spanish second division. He stayed with Las Palmas for 18 months.

Back to Spain with Granada

After his time with Charlotte FC and Las Palmas, Sergio returned to Spain. On August 9, 2022, he signed a four-year contract with Granada CF. Granada was also playing in the second division at that time.
