Where the Serpis River Starts
The Serpis River begins in a mountain area called the Carrasqueta. This area is southwest of a city named Alcoi. The river starts when two small streams, the Polop and Troncal, join together.
At first, the Serpis River does not always have water. Sometimes it dries up in parts.
The River's Journey
Near Alcoi, the Serpis River meets another river called the Barxell. The Barxell comes from the Serra de Mariola mountains. After this point, the Serpis River usually has water flowing all the time.
The river then flows through several towns and cities. These include Cocentaina, L'Alqueria d'Asnar, Muro d'Alcoi, and Gayanes.
The Beniarrés Dam
The Serpis River reaches Beniarrés, where a large dam has been built. This dam creates an artificial lake. The lake helps to store water for people to use.
After the dam, the river continues its journey. It passes through towns like L'Orxa, Vilallonga, Potries, Beniarjó, Almoines, and El Real de Gandia.
Flowing to the Sea
The Serpis River's main branch is the Vernisa river. The Vernisa joins the Serpis near the city of Gandia. Soon after, the Serpis River flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
