Castillo de los moros de Sesga
Eastern wall of the tower

Sesga Castle is a very old building in Spain. It gets its name from a small village nearby called Sesga. People also call it the "castillo de los moros," which means "Moors' castle." You can find it in the area of Ademuz, which is in the province of Valencia.

What is Sesga Castle?

Sesga Castle is not a huge, grand castle like some you might imagine. It's a small fort. Today, you can mostly see the bottom part of what was once a square tower. This tower is on the eastern side of the fort. Around it, there are parts of old walls and a small, flat area that people built a long time ago.

Where is Sesga Castle Located?

This old fort sits southwest of the village of Sesga. It's on top of a small mountain that has a flat top. Pine trees and bushes grow all around it. Next to the fort, there's a steep cliff. This cliff looks down into a deep valley called Sesga's ravine. A road that goes from Sesga to another place called Casas Bajas runs through this ravine.

How Old is Sesga Castle?

At first, people thought Sesga Castle was a medieval castle. This was because they found pieces of old pottery on the ground. But now, experts think it might be much older! It could be an Iberian or Celtiberian castrum. A castrum was a type of ancient fort or camp.

If it is this old, Sesga Castle was probably a small outpost. An outpost is a small fort used to watch over an area. It might have been like another ancient site called Puntal dels Llops. That place was also a small fort used for watching.

Has Anyone Explored the Castle?

Even though people have tried to dig there without permission, the site has not been properly explored by archaeologists. Archaeologists are scientists who study old places and objects to learn about the past. A proper dig would help us learn much more about Sesga Castle's true history.
