Early Life and High School Basketball
Seth Towns grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He went to Northland High School where he played basketball. During his high school years, many colleges wanted him to play for them.
The coach from Harvard, Tommy Amaker, talked to Seth. He told Seth that a degree from Harvard would open many doors for him, even beyond basketball. This idea helped Seth decide where to go. On June 15, 2015, Seth chose to play college basketball for Harvard. He picked Harvard over other big schools like Ohio State and Michigan.
College Basketball Journey
Playing for Harvard Crimson
Seth started his college career at Harvard. As a sophomore, he was a key player for the team. He led the Harvard Crimson in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game. He also grabbed 5.4 rebounds and made 1.8 assists per game. Seth was especially good at shooting three-pointers in the Ivy League games.
His excellent performance helped Harvard share the regular season championship. Because of his skills, Seth was named the Ivy League Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 2018. He was only the third sophomore ever to win this award. In one important game against Cornell, he scored 24 points and got 12 rebounds.
Challenges and Transfers
After his great sophomore year, Seth faced some tough times. In November 2018, he got a knee injury that kept him from playing his junior season. Then, in December 2019, he needed surgery that ended his time at Harvard.
On March 21, 2020, Seth decided to transfer to Ohio State. He chose Ohio State over Duke. He played for Ohio State during the 2020–21 season. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game that season. After that, he had back surgery in September 2021, which meant he missed more playing time.
In September 2022, Seth announced he was taking a break from basketball. He sat out the 2022–23 season. But he decided to return to the game. On May 15, 2023, he announced he would transfer from Ohio State. A few days later, on May 21, he committed to Howard University. He played his final college season with the Howard Bison in 2023–24.
Coaching Career Begins
After his college playing days ended, Seth Towns did not get picked in the 2024 NBA draft. However, his journey in basketball continued. In 2024, he was hired as an assistant coach by his former team, the Harvard. This marked a new chapter for Seth, moving from player to coach.
