The seven angels with seven trumpets, and the angel with a censer

The Seven trumpets describe a series of big events in the Book of Revelation. This book is the last part of the New Testament in the Christian Bible. In a vision, John saw these events unfold.

Seven angels blow these trumpets, one after another. Each trumpet blast causes something major to happen on Earth. These events are described in detail in Chapters 8 to 11 of the Book of Revelation. The angels start blowing the trumpets after the seventh "seal" is opened. These seals were like locks on an important scroll held by God.

What is the Book of Revelation?

The Book of Revelation is a special book in the Bible. It is full of visions and symbols. It talks about future events and the end of the world. It also describes God's plan for humanity. Many people study this book to understand its messages.

The Seven Seals and Trumpets

Before the trumpets sound, there are seven "seals" that are opened. Imagine a very important scroll that has seven locks on it. Each time a lock is opened, something happens. When the seventh seal is opened, it leads to the seven angels appearing with their trumpets. This shows that the trumpet events are a continuation of God's plan.

The First Four Trumpets

The first four trumpets bring disasters upon the natural world.

  • First Trumpet: Hail and fire mixed with blood fall on the Earth. This burns up one-third of the trees and all the green grass.
  • Second Trumpet: Something like a huge burning mountain is thrown into the sea. This turns one-third of the sea into blood. It also kills one-third of the sea creatures and destroys one-third of the ships.
  • Third Trumpet: A large star, named Wormwood, falls from the sky. It poisons one-third of the rivers and springs of water. Many people die from drinking the bitter water.
  • Fourth Trumpet: One-third of the sun, moon, and stars are darkened. This means that one-third of the day and night lose their light.

The Last Three Trumpets: Woes

The last three trumpets are called "woes" because they bring even more terrible events.

  • Fifth Trumpet: This trumpet brings a plague of locusts. These are not ordinary locusts. They are described as having the power to sting people like scorpions. They torment people for five months, but they do not kill them.
  • Sixth Trumpet: Four angels are released from the great river Euphrates. They lead an army of 200 million horsemen. This army kills one-third of all people on Earth.
  • Seventh Trumpet: When the seventh trumpet sounds, there are loud voices in heaven. They announce that the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of God. This trumpet marks the beginning of the final events. It leads to God's judgment and the establishment of His eternal rule.
