Sevil Shhaideh is a Romanian economist and politician. She was born on December 4, 1964. She has held important government roles in Romania. These roles include being a minister and a deputy prime minister. She was also once suggested to become the Prime Minister of Romania.

Early Life and Education
Sevil Shhaideh was born in Constanța, Romania. Her mother is of Crimean Tatar background. Her father is of Turkish background.
In 1987, she finished her studies at the Academy of Economic Sciences of Bucharest. She studied Economic Planning and Cybernetics.
Career in Public Service
After college, Sevil Shhaideh started working in public administration. She worked in Constanța County. There, she became the head of the Directorate General for Projects. She also helped coordinate the National Union of Romanian county councils.
Since 2012, she worked as a secretary of state. This role was in the Ministry of Regional Development.
Minister and Deputy Prime Minister
From May to November 2015, Shhaideh served as a minister. She was the Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. She worked in the government led by Victor Ponta.
In 2017, she became the Minister of Regional Development, Public Administration and European Funds. She also served as a Deputy Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Nomination
On December 21, 2016, Sevil Shhaideh was proposed to be the Prime Minister. The Social Democrats and ALDE parties suggested her. If she had been approved, she would have been the first woman and first Muslim to hold that position in Romania.
However, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, did not approve her nomination.
Personal Life
Sevil Shhaideh's family follows the Sunni Muslim faith. Her family belongs to the long-established Turkish and Tatar ethnic groups in Romania. Her mother is the niece of the Turkish historian Kemal Karpat.
She is married to Akram Shhaideh, a businessman from Syria. They got married in 2011.
