Seybaplaya is a city in the Mexican state of Campeche. It is located in the northern part of the state. The city is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) away from Campeche, Camp., which is the state capital. Seybaplaya is also the main town, or municipal seat, of the municipality that shares its name.
Location and Geography
Seybaplaya is built along a small bay. This bay is bordered by two points of land. To the south, you'll find Punta Sihoplaya. To the north, there's Punta Seybaplaya. A bit further north, about 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) away, is Punta del Morro.
What is a "Punta"?
In the Yucatán Peninsula, the word "Punta" means a specific type of land formation along the coast. These "Puntas" can be two things:
- They can be the ends of a coastal ridge. These often show where the sea enters into estuaries (areas where rivers meet the sea).
- They can also be pieces of land that stick out into the sea. These can be sandy or rocky. They often mark a change in the shape of the coastline.
Population
As of 2020, the city of Seybaplaya had a population of 9,515 people. This means nearly ten thousand people call this coastal city home.
