Shageluk is a small city in Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area, Alaska, United States. Its name in the Deg Xinag is Łeggi Jitno’.

In 2010, the population of Shageluk was 83 people. By the 2020 census, the population had grown slightly to 100 people.

The city covers a total area of about 29.78 square kilometers (11.50 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a smaller part being water.

How Many People Live in Shageluk?

Shageluk first appeared in the U.S. Census in 1880. At that time, it was called "Chageluk Settlements" and had 150 residents, all from the Tinneh tribe.

The village was not listed again until 1920. In 1966, the village had to move about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) south to higher ground. This move was necessary because of flooding. After moving, the village was rebuilt. Shageluk officially became a city in 1970. The old town area is still within the city's current borders.
