Shaib (also spelled Sha‘ib) was a small state in a region called the Aden Protectorate. This area was in South Arabia. Today, it is part of the country of Yemen. Shaib was ruled by a leader known as a Sheikh.
History of Shaib
The Sheikhdom of Shaib started a long time ago, sometime in the 1700s. It was a small independent area. Later, it became a 'protectorate' of the British Empire. This meant that Britain helped protect Shaib, but Shaib still had its own local rulers.
Shaib then joined a group of states called the Federation of Arab Emirates of the South. This group later changed its name to the Federation of South Arabia. These federations were like alliances of different states working together.
The last ruler of Shaib was Sheikh Yahya Mohamed Al-Kholaqi Al-Saqladi. In 1967, he had to leave his position. This happened when the People's Republic of South Yemen was formed. Sheikh Yahya lived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, until he passed away in 2001.
Who Ruled Shaib?
The leaders of Shaib were called Shaykh Sha`ib. They were like the kings or chiefs of their area. Over the years, several Sheikhs ruled Shaib. The last one was Sheikh Yahya ibn Mohamed Al Kholaqi al-Saqladi.
