Shane Yellowbird (born July 7, 1979 – died April 25, 2022) was a talented Canadian country music singer and songwriter. He came from Maskwacis, Alberta, and was a member of the Cree First Nation. In 2007, he won several big awards, including Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year. His popular song "Pickup Truck" was one of the most played country songs that year.

Early Life and Overcoming Challenges
Shane Yellowbird was born in Maskwacis, Alberta, on July 7, 1979. He went to Ponoka Composite High School. When he was young, Shane had a severe stuttering problem. He started singing during his speech therapy sessions to help him speak more clearly. This is how he first discovered his love for music and singing.
Music Career Highlights
Shane Yellowbird began his music journey when he signed with O'Reilly International in 2003. Three years later, in 2006, he released his first album, called Life Is Calling My Name. This album featured popular songs like "Beautiful Concept" and "Pickup Truck."
In November 2006, Shane won three awards at the Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards. He was named Best New Artist, and his song "Beautiful Concept" won Single of the Year and Best Video.
Touring and Big Awards
Shane Yellowbird got to open for the band Emerson Drive on their tour across Canada. He also represented Canada by performing at a special event called the Global Artist Party in June 2007. Later that year, he was honored with the Chevy Trucks Rising Star of the Year award at the Canadian Country Music Awards.
His song "Pickup Truck" became a huge hit in the summer of 2007. It reached the Top 5 on the Canadian Country Singles chart. The music video for "Pickup Truck" also topped the CMT Chevy Top 20 chart. It was one of the ten most played country songs in Canada that year.
Shane also opened the 2007 Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards. He won Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year that night. He also received awards for Best Country CD for Life Is Calling My Name and Best Music Video for "Pickup Truck." He continued to win, taking home three trophies at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. These included Best Male Artist, Best Country Album, and Best Album of the Year for Life Is Calling My Name. His first album was even nominated for a Juno Award in 2008.
Second Album and More Recognition
Shane Yellowbird's second album, It's About Time, came out on November 17, 2009. It included the song "Bare Feet on the Blacktop." The music video for this song was nominated for an award by the Native American Music Association in the United States. Shane won two Native American Music Awards: Best Country Recording for "Life Is Calling My Name" in 2011, and Best Country Recording for "It's About Time" in 2012.
Personal Life
Shane Yellowbird had four children. He lived with epilepsy, a condition that can cause seizures. Shane Yellowbird passed away on April 25, 2022, in Calgary, at the age of 42.
