Shanna Lynn Moakler (born March 28, 1975) is an American actress, model, and beauty queen. She won the Miss New York USA pageant in 1995. She was also the first runner-up at Miss USA 1995. When the winner, Chelsi Smith, became Miss Universe 1995, Shanna Moakler took over as Miss USA.

Shanna later started an acting career. In 1998, she appeared on the TV show Pacific Blue. In 2005, she starred in the reality TV series Meet the Barkers with her husband at the time, Travis Barker. He is the drummer for the rock band Blink-182. She also hosted Bridalplasty on E! in 2010 and 2011. In 2014, she joined the cast of the VH1 reality show Hollywood Exes.

Since 2012, Moakler has been in charge of the Miss Nevada USA pageant. She started working there in 2011. In 2018, she also took over the Miss Utah USA pageant.

Early Life

Shanna Moakler was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Her family has German, Irish, Portuguese, and Italian roots. She has two older brothers. Her older sister passed away in 2012.

As a child, Shanna loved visiting her grandfather's farm on weekends. She enjoyed playing outside and being active. She was a competitive roller skater for 12 years. This was similar to how people compete in ice skating.

She went to Barrington High School. She said she was a "dork" back then. She was quite small until she was 17 years old. By the time she graduated, she had dated the football team captain and was voted best dressed. After high school, she moved to Miami to start a modeling career. Later, she moved to New York City and then to Los Angeles.

Pageants

When Shanna Moakler was 17, she represented Rhode Island in the Miss Teen USA 1992 pageant. She did well in the early rounds and made it to the semi-finals. She finished seventh overall in the competition. In 1993, Moakler won the Miss Teen All American title.

In 1995, Moakler became Miss New York USA. She then represented New York in the Miss USA pageant. This event was held in South Padre Island, Texas. Moakler was the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant. In May 1995, at age 20, she received the 1995 Miss USA crown. This happened because the original winner, Chelsi Smith, became Miss Universe.

Shanna enjoyed some parts of being Miss USA, like playing in celebrity pool tournaments. However, she also had to sign autographs in many different places. She also had to live with a chaperone. The chaperone made sure she dressed and acted properly.

Moakler later resigned as a co-director for a pageant in 2009. She stated she could not support the organization anymore. However, she returned to the Miss California USA organization in November 2009.

Modeling

Shanna Moakler started modeling when she was fifteen years old. She appeared in many magazines. These included Cosmopolitan and Brentwood. She also appeared in an ad campaign for Cutty Sark. The famous photographer David LaChapelle took the pictures.

Television

Moakler began her TV career in 1996. She appeared on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Due South. In 1997, she played Lisa in the NBC movie Friends 'Til the End. She was also in an episode of Timecop in 1998.

From 1998, Moakler was a regular on the TV show Pacific Blue. This USA Network show was about police officers. They patrolled the beaches of Santa Monica, California on bicycles. In seasons four and five, Moakler played Officer Monica Harper. She was known as the new officer who sometimes caused trouble.

Moakler was a celebrity contestant on Search Party. This was a game show on the E! network. The show was filmed at beautiful beach resorts. Contestants worked in teams for challenges like athletic events. Moakler appeared in three episodes between 1999 and 2000.

In 2003, Moakler was on Punk'd. She helped Ashton Kutcher prank her boyfriend at the time, Travis Barker. A waiter flirted with Shanna during their romantic dinner. This made Travis react strongly. The episode first aired on November 30, 2003.

In 2005, Moakler appeared on Joey as Mariska. She also played Josie on Jake in Progress. That same year, Moakler and her husband Travis Barker starred in Meet the Barkers. This was a reality show for MTV. It started on April 6, 2005. The show followed their daily lives. It showed their wedding and their family life. The show ran for two seasons until February 2006.

Shanna Moakler dated rock star Billy Idol in 1997. They appeared together in a scene from The Wedding Singer.

Moakler started dating boxer Oscar De La Hoya in October 1997. They had a daughter together. Their relationship ended in September 2000.

On October 30, 2004, Moakler married Travis Barker. He is the drummer for the band Blink-182. Moakler and Barker have two children together, a son and a daughter. Barker filed for divorce from Moakler in August 2006. They finalized their divorce in February 2008.

In December 2014, police were called to Moakler and Barker's home. They had a verbal argument. No charges were filed against either of them. By June 2016, Moakler and Barker were co-parenting their children in a friendly way.
