Shannon Messenger is an American author. She is famous for writing the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, which is a very popular fantasy series for middle-grade readers. Shannon Messenger was born in Southern California. She moved to San Diego when she was young and went to elementary school there. She later studied at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Shannon Messenger has two children, a son born in 2021 and a daughter born in 2023.
Keeper of the Lost Cities Series
The Keeper of the Lost Cities is a fantasy book series for readers aged 8-12. It has been a big hit, appearing on The New York Times Best Seller list many times. The first book was even recommended by the Association for Library Service to Children in 2013.
What is Keeper of the Lost Cities About?
The series follows a twelve-year-old girl named Sophie Foster. She lives in San Diego and can read minds. One day, an elf boy named Fitz Vacker tells her that she is an elf too! Sophie then leaves her human family to live in the "Lost Cities." These are secret places where elves and other magical creatures live.
Sophie starts school at an elven academy called Foxfire. She lives with an elf couple who later adopt her. Sophie soon finds out she has dangerous secrets hidden in her mind. These secrets were put there by a rebel group called the Black Swan. The main bad guys in the series are the Neverseen, a dangerous criminal group.

The story has continued over many books. As of 2022, there are nine main books. The series is planned to end with a tenth book.

Unlocked is a special book (number 8.5) in the series. It is different because chapters switch between Sophie's and Keefe's points of view. Unlocked also includes a guide to the series, recipes, and character art.
Unraveled (book 9.5) is the first book told completely from Keefe's point of view.
Some special editions of the books include short stories. These stories are told from the perspectives of other characters like Keefe Sencen, Fitz Vacker, and Tam Song.
Keeper of the Lost Cities Movie Adaptation
In 2021, it was announced that Ben Affleck would direct a movie based on Keeper of the Lost Cities for Disney. Later, in 2024, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. got the rights to make the movie. Emma Watts is a producer, and Shannon Messenger is an executive producer for the film.
Sky Fall Series
The Sky Fall series is a fantasy series for young adults. It is about a seventeen-year-old boy named Vane Weston. He discovers he is a sylph, which is a wind spirit. Vane is supposed to marry Solana, who is next in line for the throne. However, he falls in love with Audra, who is assigned to protect him.
Vane is the last sylph who can talk to the Westerly winds. He must use his powers to defeat the evil Raiden. Vane faces many challenges. While trying to defeat Raiden, he also has to protect Audra and their relationship, even though many people are against it.
